The Kayak

Never have I seen so many kayaks and kayakers on the water….all kinds of water. I’ve seen kayaks on lakes, rivers, and even out on the ocean during some pretty heavy surf. And not only do I notice a lot more kayaks on the water, I also notice that the captains of these mini vessels are engaging in some pretty interesting activities other than just getting some fresh air and a lot of exercise. The last kayaker I saw was fishing for large striped bass in a kayak that was fully decked out in everything short of outriggers and a sail. It shouldn’t have been much of a surprise to see so many people making such great use of these ancient and timeless boats because they are indeed timeless and the perfect vessel for a variety of activities, which I guess now includes fishing for large game fish. For those that don’t know, a kayak is a small narrow dugout of a craft that originally was designed to be powered by paddle. These days there are also kayaks that can be paddled by foot so as to free-up the kayaker’s hands and arms for other uses, such as dragging in a big fish! These are known as Hobie Kayaks and their power source is a patented process which is known as Mirage Drive. Kayaks come in a variety of styles, body types, materials, and sizes. So, no matter if you are just looking for some exercise on the water or stealthily hunting big bass, a kayak may be just the boat you need. Here’s where you can find them.

Necky Kayaks makes a great line of kayaks for all uses. From recreational and touring to tandems they are a great place to start your search for a kayak. Here are just a few of the many styles they are stocking in their large inventory:
